The cleared land was surveyed to locate buried terrace walls that were carefully excavated prior to restoration. Most terraces were found to contain several phases of wall construction, with subsequent phases shifting down slope as the terraces eroded and were rebuilt. The earliest terraces usually retained rubble from quarries and pottery from the Early Roman period.
